Some may have noticed I recently changed my social media profile and cover pix to solid black panels.
I also have liked, shared, and commented, etc., much less frequently.
I have scrolled more quickly and fervently past more and more nonsense.
Going black means I've seen enough. I'll be gone for a while. I'm out. Gone fishin'.
It is not completely due to political or governmental reasons, but, mostly, it is.
The political arena, and consequently the government and society, today are disgusting and deplorable disasters, where selfishness, lies, hatred, racism, greed, favoritism, elitism, and hypocrisy are all the norm.
There are many good things and good people, just not enough to make the sins seem minor. And the saddest part is that well-meaning, ill-informed, and blind-followers have bought into it. They voted for and support people and programs that promote their own worst interests, either by sheer ignorance, by unwittingly believing lies, or by being haters and hypocrites themselves.
I have not unfriended, blocked, or otherwise severed ties with the folks I hold as dear friends who have contributed to that which I consider hateful nonsense. I have wondered how they have come to these beliefs. I choose to hope they are not racists, or simply ingnorant of so much, or being so gullible. I understand that people hold, and have a right to hold, different beliefs and interpretations. I hope they enjoy the chocolate, I prefer vanilla; and my putting stroke is different from strokes of other folks; I don't try to change them. I still wonder.
I now avoid conversations about nonsense. In the past they have not been pleasant or beneficial to either side. I can and do walk away from conversations in which I don't wish to be involved.
I turn the page, mute, and scroll quite a bit, and so, don't get much news past headlines or a glimpse at a photo. I get what I need. I know what's happening. I don't need to witness it or be constantly reminded.
So, no Facebook and no Twitter for me until someday. Maybe.
